The abundance of TEFL courses available in the UK is
unequalled anywhere else in the world. As there is more
competition between providers, the prices you can expect
to pay here are often substantially lower than overseas.
If you are able to make further savings by living with
friends or family during the course, then all the better
- though beware - you're likely to need a lot of personal
space, peace and quiet, as you can expect to spend a lot
of time in the evenings working through lesson preparation,
course modules and assignments.
Finding your first TEFL job in the UK can be quite tough,
but a number of providers will be looking closely at your
performance on and off the course and may well offer you
work as soon as you complete the course. This is particularly
applicable in the run up to the busy summer season.
Once you've spent a year or so teaching overseas, your
experience will make it easier to come back to the UK
and find work both either just in the summer teaching
English in summer schools before jetting off to another
country, or as a longer term move working year round in
a language school.
