TEFL course and TEFL Jobs in New Zealand

Known as the land of the long white cloud in Maori, New Zealand has earned itself a reputation for having one of the highest standards of education in the developed world. It’s also known for being one of the most geographically diverse and beautiful countries in the world. Students that choose to take their TEFL qualification here usually do so for two main reasons.

Firstly, New Zealand is an ideal place to gain an internationally recognised qualification if you are hoping to teach either English at one of its many private language schools or high schools that enroll international students, or ESL in one of the country’s many Polytechnics, Institutes of Technology or seven excellent universities. Secondly, and the most popular option, is to visit new Zealand for the many heart-pumping adventure activities for which it is famous: bungy-jumping, jet-boating, white-water rafting, surfing, heli-skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering are just some of the adrenaline-fuelled activities available. Picking up an internationally recognized TEFL or TESOL qualification at the same time is the cream on the cake.

Often those that come to New Zealand for fun, adventure and education fly onwards to diverse worldwide locations in order to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages, once they have graduated: popular destinations include Thailand, China, S. Korea, Japan, the Middle East, South America, Europe and developed Western countries.

As a native English-speaking destination, New Zealand offers a working holiday visa scheme. If you are 18-30 years of age you may be able to work and earn money for up to one year in a variety of work areas including, of course, TEFL, ESL or TESOL. During a Working Holiday in New Zealand, you are required to change jobs every 13 weeks or so, but the English Language Teaching job market is geared to this, and schools welcome the refreshing input from teachers who only stay for a short time. For Visa information, please go to the New Zealand Government's " Visiting New Zealand" site.
