TEFL course and TEFL Jobs in Turkey
Istanbul, once known as the capital of capital cities,
has many unique features. It is the only city in the world
to straddle two continents, and the only one to have been
a capital during two consecutive empires, Christian and
Islamic.
Once capital of the Ottoman Empire, Istanbul still remains
the commercial, historical and cultural pulse of Turkey,
and its beauty lies in its ability to embrace its contradictions.
Ancient and modern, religious and secular, Asia and Europe,
mystical and earthly all co-exist here.
As Istanbul is an ever-growing city with a population increasing
at around 5% per annum, the teaching opportunities here
are plentiful. There are numerous language schools catering
to every level from primary schools to businesses; any graduate
should be able to find a niche in Istanbul. Due to the high
demand for teachers here, it is the right choice to attend
a CTEFL course. In Istanbul, or in any other city of Turkey,
it is very easy to find a teaching job as there is a huge
demand for native or native-like speakers of English. At
present there is a shortage of certificate qualified teachers
worldwide and consequently the majority of trainees can
easily find employment by the time they complete the course.
Wages vary from city to city or school to school, though
in general the standard of living you can expect as an English
teacher is good. Wages are well above the national average
for TEFL graduates and usually between USD 800 and 1500
net monthly. Many schools will also help with accommodation
and either pay the air-fare or a further month’s salary
as bonus on completion of the contract.
Visas are granted upon arrival at the airport. Ordinary
passport holders of nationals of the following countries
may obtain sticker type visas at the Turkish International
Border Gates to enter into Turkey: Australia, Canada, EU
countries, Iceland, Jamaica, Malta, Mauritius, New Zealand,
Singapore, United States of America.
TEFL training has been offered in Istanbul for a number
of years. CTEFL has been offered by one centre for 5 years.
Like many developing modern cities, Istanbul has its problems
but, with its historical background and lively atmosphere,
many people end up staying here for a while.
