Customer Feedback
It was really helpful, well organised and I enjoyed it. Great trainers, friendly and helpful staff.
- Sandra Kocher - February, 2011
The trainers were excellent and the course was very useful and informative, intensive though!
-Joel Blackmur-
'Intensive' is definitely the word! However, it was good to get straight into teaching practice and all the input sessions were useful. The workload from the written assignments was well-timed over the duration of the course. I am amazed at how much we have learnt in just four weeks!
-Natalie Holmes-
Course Description
If you want to work as an English Language teacher either in Britain or abroad, Cambridge ESOL CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is probably the most widely recognised ELT qualification in the world.
The four week, full-time course leading to this qualification is designed as an initial course for people with little or no experience of English Language Teaching. It is suitable for native speakers and advanced non-native speakers. The course is an extremely practical introduction to the theory and methodology of English Language Teaching.

The training day runs from nine to five, and the homework and lesson preparation tasks make this a very intensive course. CELTA centres around teaching practice (TP). In this centre they are fortunate in that they can devote the whole morning to TP. A typical morning will consist of assisted lesson preparation followed by two hours of TP with peer observation and feedback. During the course you will teach multilingual groups of real students at two different levels.
In the afternoon, you will have two practical input seminars in which the tutors will reinforce effective teaching techniques and provide you with a wide range of teaching ideas and materials. As well as basic teaching skills, the syllabus also covers lesson planning and teaching methodology, language analysis and awareness, planning and resources for different teaching contexts and developing professionalism and self-evaluation skills in the field of ESOL/ELT.
You will also observe 6 hours of experienced teachers working here in our school. During the course you will have to complete 4 short assignments (a total of 3000 words), which serve as a practical reflection of the syllabus.
There is continuous and integrated assessment throughout the course which covers all aspects of the course and is validated by an external assessor. Candidates who fulfil the necessary criteria are awarded the Cambridge/ESOL Certificate. Results are issued within one week of the end of the course. The school also gives each candidate a detailed report with an assessment of their individual progress and potential.
