Course Description
On the course you are expected to think and behave as a professional TEFL teacher, working as a member of a team in a communicative profession. You will need to take responsibility for your work in and outside the EFL classroom. The course will be demanding but very rewarding. As the saying goes, 'the more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it!'
The training equips trainees with the essential skills and knowledge needed to take up posts as EFL/ESOL teachers and gives them a firm foundation for self-evaluation and further professional development.
Successful trainees will be able to demonstrate the following on completion of the course:
-Understand the main features of English including grammar, lexis and phonology
-Understand the learning needs of different types of students
-Ability to design clear lesson plans with appropriate methods
-Ability to design simple teaching resources and evaluate and modify published resources
-Be familiar with some of the more popular published materials on offer
-Be confident with the main teaching tools including whiteboard, OHP and computers
-Be able to create rapport with students and manage a class effectively
-Ability to find employment within the field
The course is taught in 5 seperate units that will take each trainee through the necessary steps to becoming a certified Teacher Trainer. Teaching skills such as classroom management, contemporary TESOL approaches and methodologies:
Unit 1: Teaching skills
Trainees will learn about and put into practice contemporary TESOL approaches, methodologies and classroom management skills for student with at least two different levels of english. This component of the course includes at least 6 hours of teaching experience and at least 4 hours of EFL teacher observations.
Unit 2: Language Awareness
Trainees will learn to understand and analyse language in terms of its linguistic form, function and meaning so to ensure that it can be explained to students.
Unit 3: The Learner Profile
This assignment enables students to draw up a learning profile for a EFL student in order to teach them in a one-to one setting. This will allow each trainee to recognize the particular language needs for individual students.
Unit 4: The Materials Assignment
This section of the course will focus on effective materials that are to be used throughout the course of EFL training.
Unit 5: The Unknown Language
Trainees will have the opportunity to learn a new langauge which will enable them to recognize some of the challenges s and enjoyable elements of learning a new language as an adult.

The school can help trainees with accomodation, either with a family or in one of our student houses as long as at least two weeks notice is given.

This brand new school was opened in 2008 and is located in a beautifully refurbished, four story Victorian house between Brighton and Hove, with a garden, a terrace and a 5-star cafeteria. This is an ideal location as the beach, Brighton attractions and city centre are only 15 minutes away. The school has 15 spacious classrooms with large windows, a fully stocked study centre and library, a computer room as well as WiFi throughout the building.
This school is not only newly-renovated, well-resourced and a pleasant training environment, it is also a real, thriving workplace where you will experience the reality of teaching.
