Customer Feedback
The trainers worked closely with the students and gave a lot of support in areas where students needed help. I am grateful for the help that I received.

Course Description
CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is intended for those with no previous experience who wish to enter the profession and for teachers with some experience but no previous training in the field.
For anyone intending to enter the TEFL profession it is the ideal qualification to have. Most reputable language schools make it (or an equivalent) a requirement for anyone they employ.
Course content
The CELTA course covers the following syllabus:
* Language Analysis and Awareness
* The Learner, the Teacher and the Teaching/Learning Context
* Planning for Effective Teaching

* Teaching Procedures and Techniques
* Resources and Materials
* Professional Development
* Classroom Observation
* Teaching Practice
Teaching practice
Teaching practice is an integral part of the course. This is organised in small groups of 6 trainees with volunteer students at two or three different levels. After each teaching practice session an evaluation of the session is led by a course tutor. Trainees are expected to liase within their groups outside course hours in order to plan teaching practice classes, according to guidelines provided by course tutors.
Full-time over four weeks
Courses have a minimum of 120 contact hours, plus a further 80 hours plus for required outside of classtime tasks, including assignments and lesson planning. The full-time course is very intensive and requires a full-time commitment. It is not possible or advisable to hold even a part-time job while on the course.
Assessment and certificates
Trainees are continuously assessed in all the syllabus areas, including written assignments, and with particular emphasis on their teaching ability and potential. At the end of the course successful candidates receive the Cambridge Certificate and a Progress Report.
Entry requirements
Candidates must be at least 20 years old at the start of the course. They must have a standard of education which would allow entrance to higher education in their country. They must have an awareness of language, and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables them to follow the course. They must also have the potential to develop into effective teachers.

Finding work in TEFL
Where to start in TEFL?
If you\\\'re looking for a job as an English teacher either in the UK or abroad, the Cambridge CELTA is for you. CELTA is the most widely recognised English language qualification in the world and most of the world\\\'s leading teaching organisations will give preference to teachers who have successfully completed a CELTA training course.
An internationally recognised qualification from International House Belfast - a teacher training organization with an excellent reputation - gives you a headstart in TEFL.
Helping you find work
There are several ways that International House Belfast can help CELTA trainees find work.
International House Belfast is a member of a well-known World Organisation (www.ihworld.com) which is made up of some 148 schools located in more than 50 countries. Many of these schools are constantly on the lookout for CELTA qualified teachers and, needless to say, teachers who have been trained by a sister centre will have ready access to all job vacancies within the organisation. We can even interview you on behalf of another International House school.
Secondly, as part of the CELTA training, there is one input session solely devoted to giving advice on finding work in the EFL industry - recruitment sites, writing CVs, dealing with interviews, and specific country-related issues.
Throughout the course, trainees will have the opportunity to meet the IH Belfast teaching staff who are more than happy to share their knowledge and experience of living and working around the world teaching English.
