Customer Feedback
The premises were lovely and situated very centrally in Cheltenham. There was also a nice buzz about the place and, whilst on a taster day we did not have trainers as such, the staff were quite helpful on the day.

Very thorough course, has prepared me well for work as teacher

Course Description
The course is designed for people who are new to teaching or wish to gain a recognised qualification. The certificate is validated by Trinity College London Examination Board and is equivalent in status and international recognition to the Cambridge CELTA qualification.
Taking this course in Cheltenham provides the perfect antidote to the stress such a course can often create. The relaxed atmosphere in the town is tangible, and ensures that once you left for the day you'll be able to calm down quickly and recharge your batteries.
The course combines a mixture of lectures, seminars and workshops led by experienced trainers, who will help you prepare for your teaching practice. The work is predominantly practical with an emphasis on "learning by doing". Your performance is continually assessed and your classroom teaching will form the basis of your overall grade.
Your written projects and grades are finally submitted to a Trinity Moderator at the end of the course who will award one of two grades: PASS or FAIL. The school also issue its own certificate which contains details of your performance on the course, with a grade from A to E. This can be used as a reference for prospective employers.
Language Awareness
The area of the course which worries most trainees is grammar. Most people have never sat down and "learned" the grammar of their own first language, let alone taught it! Every day you will examine an aspect of grammar and consider techniques for presenting it to students. We also emphasise the importance of phonology with a series of seminars full of ideas to help foreign students improve their pronunciation.
Teaching Practice
The afternoon is dedicated to teaching students who are studying English at our main school. They volunteer for extra free lessons and are aware the teachers may be novices. You will find them enthusiastic and supportive.
We also attract students to your lessons who are living and working in the UK for whom English is a second language. With this mix and range of students, we hope to expose you to a wide variety of classroom contexts and give you experience of different learner needs and objectives.
Tutors & Tutorials
On a Certificate in TESOL course in Cheltenham, you receive more tutor support than usual, including two formal tutorials to give you chance to discuss your progress. Tutors also work with you during lesson planning and are always on hand. The recruitment office has an open door policy so that you can drop in to discuss teaching vacancies or obtain help and advice in applying for a post.
Intensity
We cannot stress enough how intense this course is. Throughout the 4 weeks you will have work to do in the evenings and at weekends. It is advised that you should be certain you can combine the demands of this course with family commitments we advise you not to continue working whilst attending this course.
Interview process
The interview lasts approximately 90 minutes. It begins by describing the course and giving you the chance to ask questions about it. Then there is a discussion of the interview questions you are asked to prepare beforehand (part of the application form).
Finally you will have to write a passage and study some written work by a student and identify the errors. This is to check your level of English (having a degree is no guarantee) for writing projects and - obviously - in the classroom. At the end you'll have a quick tour of the centre and the opportunity to ask any more questions.

School Details - Cheltenham
The school was opened in 1990 and since then has established a strong reputation for high quality language training combined with an extremely personal service, paying particular attention to the needs of all clients.
The school is located in two beautiful, neighbouring Regency buildings in the town centre.
The main school is a medium-sized school offering the ideal combination of quality teaching and a high degree of personal contact with all our students. It is a beautiful Regency villa built in 1796. Located just 30 metres from the High Street, it is superbly positioned for access to buses, shops, restaurants and pubs. This building is used for all adult group courses and for teacher training.
The Business and Professional Language Training Centre was opened in 1998 to better meet the needs of our many business and professional clients. Here you can meet business people from all over the world, including England, enjoy a training programme designed to meet your needs and at the same time, still enjoy all the extra facilities offered by the main school next door.
In spite of its central position, you could easily be forgiven for thinking that the school is out of the town centre, thanks to its beautiful garden and peaceful location.
The high standards of our courses, our teaching staff, our accommodation services and our extra-curricular activities have all been officially and objectively recognised by external bodies.
The school is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English as a Foreign Language to Adults and is accredited under the British Government's "Investor in People" scheme.
