New York City
Everything is an event in New York City. Every part of your experience here will enhance your process of learning American English. The Activities Coordinator plans several trips each week to include visits to places such as the New York Stock Exchange, television studios, jazz clubs, baseball games, and museums. Some of these activities are trips with your class and teacher and others are school-wide events which you may join in with other students depending on your personal interests. A tour leader always accompanies students in these activities. Discovering the city and its people is the best way to practice your new English language skills.
A 210-hour course designed for non-native speakers of English who are interested in entering the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) profession, as well as to those who are currently teaching but would like to deepen their TESOL skills. The TESOL Certificate focuses on essential TESOL methodology and effective teaching practices. The TESOL Certificate focuses on essential TESOL methodology and effective teaching practices. The course includes 6 hours of practice teaching with real ESL students.
The course provides practical training through teaching demonstrations, lesson planning and analysis, and practice teaching and feedback. Participants develop skills in teaching, speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and culture. The course begins with a brief look at second language acquisition through the experience of being a learner. Participants then examine specific teaching areas each day, which they apply in their daily practice teaching of adult ESOL learners. Participants gain skills in analysis through examining their lessons with teacher trainers.
The TESOL course focuses on three main areas:
Learning
Participants engage in a language-learning experience in order to explore the relationship between language learning, teaching, and aspects of second language acquisition from the point of view of the learner. This experience provides the foundation for the examination of teaching practices.
Teaching
Participants examine the theory and practice of planning, teaching, grammar, culture, and assessing lessons in the four skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) through experiential activities, teaching demonstrations, discussions, lesson planning, materials development, and readings.
Classroom practices
Participants put their new knowledge and skills into practice through daily teaching sessions. Trainers observe and facilitate feedback sessions after these lessons. Participants learn to reflect on and assess their own teaching as well as to examine the teaching of their peers.
Graduates of the course find challenging teaching positions in their native countries, or return to their current jobs with new skills and greater knowledge, awareness, and satisfaction.
Applicants can contact the school's Admissions Department for advice and referrals to student accommodations options in New York City.
9.00am - 5.00pm
The school and trainers were really supportive and the course was of a high standard. Both of the trainers were very experienced and helped to make this a very worthwhile experience. The course was well organised and very demanding.

This centre has a policy of actively recruiting successful graduates from the SIT TESOL Certificate course .
The school offers its TEFL course graduates help and guidance with finding work in the world of ESL teaching in a number of ways.
Firstly, all participants have access to a list of recruitment websites, as well the Transitions Abroad magazine, where numerous teaching vacancies are posted.
Secondly, they are provided with a comprehensive data base of language schools and teaching organizations in New York. In the past, many course participants enjoyed the certificate program so much, that they opted to work for the school. If, however, a participant would like to work abroad, their highly experienced trainers are often able to give comprehensive advice.
Progress has also been made recently in establishing partnerships with ESL schools worldwide that might be interested in employing graduates of this course. The school currently has a strong connection with many private and public schools in South Korea.
If a course participant asks for help with writing a resume or a cover letter, the staff are always more than happy to be of assistance.
