Course Description

What is the Trinity Certificate in TESOL?
The Trinity Cert TESOL is one of only two globally recognised and accepted TEFL qualifications and provides a very thorough training for those who wish to teach English to speakers of other languages either overseas or in the UK.

Is the Trinity Certificate Course for me?
The course we offer is designed for both those of you who have no previous experience and also for those of you who have some, albeit limited, experience of teaching either English or other subjects but who wish to obtain a professional qualification specific to TEFL.

The course provides you with the essential skills and knowledge to teach English in a variety of educational settings and is open to native and non-native speakers of English.

Limited to a maximum of 10 people, it is extremely intensive with 135 contact hours over the course of the month. Each day combines observed teaching practice, practical workshops or lectures and targeted project work. The course is all the more demanding in that you are expected to work on assignments and preparation outside official course hours as well.

This is a challenging, stimulating and rewarding course and with that in mind we would like to stress that you should have no other commitments during the period of training and that you focus all your energy on the course.

Who awards this Certificate?
The Certificate in the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages is awarded by TRINITY COLLEGE LONDON and is commonly known as The Trinity CertTESOL. This qualification is accredited in England by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority at Level 5 of the National Qualifications Framework.

It is accepted by the British Council as an initial TESOL qualification for teachers in its accredited teaching organisations in the UK and in its own teaching operations overseas. Credits are also awarded towards degree programmes offered by the Open University in the UK.

When and how is the Certificate awarded?
In order to be awarded the Certificate candidates must follow and successfully complete a course as a centre which is approved by Trinity College London
Your practical and written work is assessed by the course tutors and moderated by a Trinity College Moderator who also interviews all trainees personally on the last day of the course. The CERTIFICATE is awarded to those who have successfully completed all elements of the course including the final interview with the Moderator.

The school issues its own final report on each student giving details of achievement in all sections of the course.

How widely recognised is the Trinity College Certificate?
Over the past 100 years Trinity College has developed a world-wide reputation for academic excellence. The Certificate in TESOL is recognised by the British Council as a good initial TEFL qualification. Most language schools both in the UK and abroad recognise the Certificate in TESOL as a suitable qualification for teaching English to speakers of other languages so enabling you to teach in any country in the world where there is a demand for English.

Who are the trainers on the Trinity Certificate Course?
Our trainers are all qualified professionals with extensive teaching and training experience both in Britain and abroad, and a commitment to high quality TEFL training. Above all they are talented communicators who can make their trainees share their enthusiasm and professionalism in a practical and stimulating way.

What happens on the Course?
Course Contents
The course consists of several different components:

Input sessions
These are with course tutors and take place during the morning. They examine both theoretical and practical aspects of EFL teaching, introducing teaching skills that can be applied to your own lessons. There will also be slots dedicated to the study of grammar and pronunciation.

Teaching Practice
Each trainee completes a minimum of six hours supervised classroom teaching. Classes consist of typically six to ten students, people who attend on a 'Free Lesson' basis.

Live Observations
You will be required to observe some lessons taught at the School in order to further trainee's ability to assess teacher performance. There are also opportunities to observe lessons prior to the commencement of the course.

Unknown Language Training
You will spend four hours learning an unknown language during the course to help you appreciate the problems faced by learners and encourage you to analyse your own reactions to the experience. It forms the basis of a written assignment.

Learner Profile
You will spend several hours interviewing, teaching and analyzing the language capabilities and study style of a student on a one to one basis. It forms the basis of a written assignment.

Materials Project
You will do a materials project where you evaluate two pieces of material you have used in your teaching and which in turn you present to the Trinity College London moderator at the end of the course.

Language Awareness test
There is no formal exam at the end of the course. However, trainees take a Language Awareness test in the final week and have the opportunity to meet a Trinity Moderator on the last day of the course.

Accommodation Options

If you require accommodation, the school is able to fully assist: Typically a comfortable single room in a residence will cost 500EUR.
These options can be more fully discussed at either the enquiry or application stage.

The course was really intense, even more than warned. I really enjoyed it though. The trainers were really good, helpful, approachable, encouraging, motivating, enthusiastic, brilliant.
-Nicole Bana-Garcia-

The school was conveniently located and the trainers were brilliant, they were very supportive and great to work with. Absolutely fantastic. The course was intensive but a lot of fun. The teaching aspect was the best part of the course. I met very nice people and made good friends.
-Saima Syed-

The course was well planned and organised. Input sessions were balanced, informative, interesting; always on time. There was a good variety of styles and methodology. Lots of deadlines - daunting but achievable, and good discipline for a teaching career.
