School Details - Perth
This school is the longest established private institution which teaches English to speakers of other languages. In 1987 the college was approved as a recognized centre by the Royal Society of Arts to conduct its Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). It was the first institution in Western Australia to be accorded this honour, and the second in Australia. In 1988, the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate took over administration of the course. The Certificate is now known as the University of Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA).
Perth
With a population of 1.6 million, Perth is the state capital of Western Australia, Australia's biggest and richest state. Located on the Indian Ocean coast, along the Swan River, the city is an outdoor sports paradise. It also enjoys some 8 hours of sunshine a day year-round - no wonder it claims to be the country's sunniest state capital and, with temperatures averaging 25 degrees in the summer, it's all the more appealing. The city centre bustles with activity. The sunshine city may live in relative isolation from the rest of Australia (Sydney is some 4400kms away by road) but there's certainly plenty here to keep you happy for a while.
Timetable
Monday and Wednesday 5.30pm to 9.00pm and Saturday 9.00am—2.30pm
Help for Jobs
Job Placement
The school helps course graduates in the following ways:
(1) The University of Cambridge has a free job placement service for successful CELTA graduates. The application form which gives details of work worldwide is given to each graduate.
(2) Practical advice, tips and assistance are given to course participants on an on going basis during the course and in a job help session.
(3) The school is asked from time to time by Australian and overseas colleges to recruit teachers, and gives first preference to its CELTA graduates.
(4) On average, the school offers employment to 2 or 3 graduates from each course; more from the July and August courses.
(5) Worldwide, demand for CELTA trained teachers largely exceeds supply. The indications are that this buoyancy will continue.
