Course Description
The Cambridge DELTA Diploma is widely recognised and valued by the profession and it is the first step to a career in TEFL which may have the classroom as its main focus but which may also take the holder into a number of other interesting directions, such as
- materials writing
- academic management
- teacher training
- editing EFL materials
- promoting EFL materials
The course is organised around three modules, each of which is assessed separately. During the last module (Module III) candidates may focus on an area of specialism from a wide range of topics (e.g., Young Learners, ESP, Exam Classes, and many more a full list is available on request). but covers other needs and age groups of interest to each candidate as well.
Course Organisation
The full time course offered by our centre covers all three modules within attendance dates but candidates may choose to take each Module separately.
Module I is assessed through a written examination marked by Cambridge ESOL.
Module II is assessed through a portfolio of assignments and observed lessons marked internally as well as through an externally assessed lesson by a Cambridge ESOL assessor.
Module III is assessed through an extended written assignment submitted to and marked by Cambridge ESOL.
Course Options
The full time course covers the input for all three modules and it is offered in January, June and October each year.
Candidates are assessed as follows:
Candidates following the June and October course can sit for Module 1 in the December session. Candidates in the January course can sit for the same exam in the June session.
Candidates for all course options are assessed for Module 2 in Athens at the end of their course with classes specially organized by the centre.
Module 3 is assessed post-course, and the write-up is completed after the face-to-face course is over and candidates return to their place of work. All candidates submit their Module 3 assignment for the next examination session after their Module 1 & 2 assessment (in exceptional cases, candidates who have started their Module 3 work before coming to Athens, can submit for the same examination session).
DELTA course application procedure
Applicants must have experience of classroom teaching experience at a variety of levels, a first degree and, ideally, have attended a course such as the Cambridge CELTA or an equivalent course. However, each case is reviewed separately and candidates are invited to write a written language and methodology screening task and attend an interview – face-2-face, by phone or online (e.g. via Skype)
Please note that the assessment fees should be paid directly to the schools.
