Course Description

This course is for you if you are a practising Language Teacher who wishes to make ELT your career. It is a demanding course which you need to commit a lot of time and effort to.

The course consists of 3 modules which can be taken individually:

Module One - Understanding Language, Methodology and Resources for Teaching:
A written examination consisting of two parts, each 1 hour 30 minutes (externally marked)

Module Two - Developing Professional Practice:
Assesed assignments incorporating background essays and observed teaching

Module Three - Extending Practice and ELT Specialism (e.g. teaching young learners, English for Special Purposes, teaching one-to-one):
An extended assignment of 4,000 - 4,500 words (externally marked)


Assessment
The course is assessed by four assessed observed lessons/written assignments (Module 2), an extended assignment on a specialist area (Module 3) and two 90 minute exam papers in June (Module 1). In addition, you must observe ten hours of lessons at your own schools or elsewhere. There is a mock exam in April, and one unassessed observation at the beginning of the course. Progression
- In previous years, successful trainees have secured DoS positions in the UK and abroad, obtained places on MA courses or found employment in the Further Education Sector.


Entry Requirements
- You must be at least 21 years old by the first day of the course
- You have to have at least two years (1,200 hours) of teaching experience of ELT to classes of adults, gained within the last five years
- You must have an initial teaching certificate (i.e. CELTA)
- You must have a degree or equivalent
- You need to be competent in written and spoken English
- You have to be employed as an ELT teacher throughout the course teaching at least 2 distinct levels


School Details - London Hammersmith College

This school is one of the longest established providers of English Language teacher training courses. They have a large catchment area, giving you the rewarding experience of teaching multi-lingual classes, with your students coming from many different countries and backgrounds. The courses take place in a well-equipped and newly decorated training suite. There is a two floor library that is extremely well stocked with additional shelves available only to CELTA trainees. The library also has trained staff on hand to help you use the computers. All students at this school have free internet access.
