Course Description
This 124 hour TEFL course, known as a 'CELT' course qualifies you to teach EFL worldwide. It is especially beneficial for anyone hoping to teach EFL in Ireland, as the qualification is recognised by ACELS (Department of Education).
Course Content
The course programme consists of at least 124 hours of study and comprises face-to-face sessions and trainer-directed assignments.
There are 100+ programmed hours of face-to-face contact (including input and practice sessions), between course trainers and trainees.
Input sessions cover an introduction to the following:
* Planning, preparation and evaluation of individual lessons and programmes of work.
* A range of teaching techniques to support and facilitate learners' English language development and performance.
* Classroom management.
* How to evaluate, select and adapt ELT course materials and resources for use with learners at different levels.
* The background to the English language and the description of how it works (grammar, syntax, word usage and phonetics) and how to apply this basic knowledge to effective teaching.
* Current language learning theories but also teaching methodologies relevant to ELT.
* How to monitor and evaluate learners' language learning needs, competence and achievements.
* Professional development and how to evaluate, review, and reflect upon feedback about teaching and use it to inform future good practice.
Teaching Practice includes micro teaching (delivered to fellow trainees) as well as team and solo practice teaching delivered to genuine EL learners with feedback sessions and review and evaluation sessions. The trainee will gain direct experience of teaching real students for a total of 6 hours during the course.
Degree requirement
In accordance with ACELS regulations, recognised certificates (entitling the holder to teach in Ireland) are only issued to those with a third level degree (equivalent to level 7 on the National Framework for Academic Awards). Applicants whose degrees are awarded by recognised Irish or British institutions must obtain written confirmation that their qualification is equivalent to this standard from the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland.
Unendorsed certificates, which are acceptable certification for native EFL teachers in many countries around the world, may be issued to non-degree holders who successfully complete the course.
Interview requirement
Trainees will be asked to do an interview and a short written task and before their place on the course is confirmed. Interviews will be conducted in the 10 days before the course is due to begin.
English requirement
The course is open to non-native applicants who, in addition to meeting the requirements listed in the general applicant information, must also demonstrate a sufficient level of English to complete the course and sufficient competence to teach the language.
Non-native applicants must have attained at least a C1 in the Council of Europe Framework.
E.g. 6.5 in IELTS
* Pass in CAE
* or the equivalent level in another exam
Applicants must produce an original certificate to this effect.
Where the certificate dates from more than three years ago the applicants must do an initial level test set by the school to ensure they have maintained their English at an acceptable level.
Accommodation Options
1. Full board staying with a host family
January-June: 185 Euros per week (EUR29 per extra night).
June-December: 195 Euros per week (EUR30 per extra night).
2. A bed in a dormitory for 4 people with en-suite in Marina House Student residence: 120 Euros per week Bed and Breakfast
3. A bed in a dormitory for 10 people in Marina House: 100 Euros per week.
Marina House (www.marinahouse.com http://www.marinahouse.com ) is a 15 minute walk from the school and the host families would be a short journey by Public Transport (15 minutes).
4. Short term apartments can be rented as well. Studio styple apartments for 2 people cost 490 Euros, apartment style for 2 to 4 people costs 540 Euros. For the booking of apartments a fee of 35 Euros applies.
5. Accommodation in a local 4-star hotel (incl. breakfast) costs from EUR 140 per night for a single room and EUR 240 per night for a double room. A 35 Euros booking fee applies.

School Details - South Dublin
The centre is located in Dun Laoghaire, 15 minutes from Dublin city centre by DART (tram) and only 3 minutes walk from the DART station. There is free WIFI access for all trainees, computers with internet access (free), a relaxation area (with tea, coffee and snacks), a kitchen, 7 large bright classrooms and an outdoor patio.
