Course Description
The Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is one of the leading, internationally-recognised TEFL qualifications. The qualification is issued by the Cambridge University Examining Board and has been classified as a level 4 qualification by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.
The course is highly-practical and intensive and your full attendance and participation are course requirements.
On the CELTA course you will learn:
- the principles of communicative teaching methodology
- techniques to develop the reading, writing, listening and speaking skills
- how to present and practise new language
- classroom management
- lesson and syllabus planning
- how to make the most of resources and materials
Timetable
Between 8-9 hours per day. 09:30-18:30 Monday to Friday for 4 weeks.
Entry Requirement
Applicants must have a good standard of education. Ideally, applicants should have a level of education that would allow them entry into a university. If you do not have this level of education, your range of professional experiences will be taken into consideration. All applicants should have a standard of English to that of a native speaker. Before being offered a place on a course, all applicants will have either a face-to-face or a telephone interview.
Accommodation Options
Homestay Accommodation
Most host families live near the school. Trainees will get their own private room and share living facilities with family. This accommodation can be on a half-board of full-board basis.
Student residence and shared accommodation
The student residence and shared apartments are all fully-furnished and are located very near to the school.
School Details - Palermo
Palermo is the principal city of the autonomous Italian region of Sicily. Sicily is an island with plenty of natural wonders and a chequered history. Ruled by the Greeks, Byzantines, Arabs Normans and Spanish its colourful history can be seen in the amazing architecture and local customs today. Palermo is a bustling city with lots of local attractions to keep you entertained when you are not in class or preparing lessons.
Established in 1975 the school became affiliated to the International House World Organisation in 1984. It has been offering the CELTA course since 2002.
The school building occupies 2 floors of a traditional building in the city centre, near to the main square. There are twelve classrooms, 2 staff rooms, a student self-access centre, a photocopying area, a reception area, a patio, two offices and a small library. The school is centrally heated, with air conditioning in the summer months.
