Course Description

Course Structure and Syllabus
Our CELTA course is held in our main building and we'll be moving to new, purpose-built premises mid-year (see photo above and look out for news on the website and Facebook). Our local trainers are native speakers and fully qualified; the course follows the Cambridge ESOL syllabus (input sessions, observed teaching practice and feedback, supervised lesson preparation, written assignments and tutorials) and is monitored for quality by an independent observer. You will acquire a range of skills that will provide you with a solid foundation and a globally recognised qualification to start building your teaching career. Over its four-week duration, the course is very intensive and demanding but also stimulating and rewarding. Many candidates take the opportunity while they're here to travel around Costa Rica afterwards.

Input sessions
These sessions cover many areas, such as the following:

-Language analysis (Grammar, Lexis, Phonology)
-Error analysis and correction
-Current teaching methodologies
-The learner, the teacher and the teaching/learning context
-Effective lesson planning and preparation
-Classroom management
-Classroom resources and textbooks
-Professional development

Teaching Practice
All trainees will complete six hours of assessed teaching practice (9 assessed classes).
