Course Description
The Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is designed for both native speakers and non-native speakers with a near native-speaker competence, who are aged over 18 and have a high level of formal education. Previous teaching experience is not required. During the course, candidates develop familiarity with the principles of effective teaching and acquire a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners. The course includes teaching practice, observation of experienced teachers in the classroom and completion of a range of practically focussed written assignments.
The course is highly practical in nature and aims to provide a thorough grounding in the teaching methodology and language analysis necessary for effective English teaching. Internationally recognized, the CELTA is run in over 100 centres world-wide and is widely regarded as one of the most important and valuable forms of training in TEFL. Isra Guest House
Small, clean guest house located near the Central department store. Single basic fan rooms are 100 Baht a night. Toilet and shower facilities are shared.
Airport Resident

A modern, clean apartment style building about 15 minutes (by songthaew) from the training centre. Rooms are well equipped: air conditioning, cable TV (60 channels), fridge, IDD, warm water and room safe. There is a high speed internet caf? in the building. Prices start at 500 Baht for a standard room rising to 650 Baht for a superior room. Prices include all taxes but not breakfast. Discounts are available for long stay.
Chiang Mai Suandok Kaew House

Located near Suandok Temple and the Kard Suan Kaew shopping centre and is about 20 minutes (by songthaew) from the training centre. They offer free pick-up from the airport, bus station and railway station.
Prices are as follows: Superior room on floors 2-3: 530 Baht (all year round), Superior room on floors 4-5: 550 Baht and deluxe rooms on floors 4-5: 700-800 Baht. Prices include all taxes but not breakfast.
Chiang Mai University

Basic accommodation is available at the university at various times of year. The university is within easy walking distance of the training centre. Accommodation is dorm type accommodation with shared facilities. Rooms are air conditioned and a simple local breakfast is available. Prices start at around US$6 per night. A variety of clean well appointed rooms. This guest house has a swimming pool. It is about 20-30 minutes from the training centre by songthaew.
Fan rooms from 150 to 350 Baht (higher price with hot water). Air conditioned room 1: 500 Baht with hot water, air conditioned room type 2: 700 Baht with hot water and cable TV. Discounts are available for long stays.
SK House Chiang Mai
This guest house is located near the Night Bazaar and Chiang Mon temple. All rooms have a private hot/cold shower and toilet. All rooms (except standard fan) have local/cable TV. There is also a swimming pool and internet facilities. Checkout time is 10:00.
Standard room fan (single or double) 300 Baht (low season) and 500 Baht (high season), Superior room fan (single or double) 400 - 600 Baht, AC room single 600 - 800 Baht and AC room double 700 - 900 Baht. Prices include tax but not breakfast. Breakfast can be had for 100 Baht.
Hotels
Most of the hotels listed here are within 10-15 minutes songthaew/tuk-tuk ride fro the training centre. Most of these are 3-5 star establishments and come with all the facilities you would expect.
Chiang Mai Phucome
On the outskirts of the city but within 5 minutes walking distance of the training centre. Ask for a room at the back of the hotel for spectacular views of Doi Suthep. A lot of teak wood went into constructing the lobby! Has a swimming pool and a Dunkin Donuts attached. They offer a free pick up from the airport.
Rooms in the old building are 905 Baht for a single/double and 1400 for a triple. Rooms in the new building are 1030 for a single double and 1525 Baht for a triple. Prices include all taxes and breakfast.
Chiang Mai Hills Resort
Conveniently located within easy walking distance of the training centre (5 minutes). This hotel prides itself on its hill tribe décor. All rooms are fully appointed and offer every comfort and convenience. There is also a swimming pool here.
A superior room in the low season is 925 Baht (single), 985 Baht (double) and 1535 Baht (triple). In the high season the prices are 1055-1645 Baht (single), 1120-1710 Baht (double) and 1770-2335 Baht (triple).
Amari Rincome Hotel

Located about 10-15 minutes from the training centre, the Amari is a modern luxury hotel with all the associated facilities. Has a number of international class restaurants attached to it.
A superior room in the low season is 2050 Baht for a single and 2255 Baht for a twin. In the high season these prices increase to 3075 and 3280 Baht respectively. All prices are ++ but include breakfast.

A beautifully located small hotel set in a botanical garden. The rooms are all decorated in northern Thai Lanna style. A peaceful location.
The Preak Sa style rooms (single/twin) are 950 Baht and come with TV, hot and cold water and the price includes breakfast but not taxes (++).
Holiday Garden
A nice hotel decorated with various pieces of beautiful handmade local artwork. You can choose from a hotel experience (tower) or resort experience (garden). A large swimming pool is available for guests use.
Located about a 15 minute songthaew or tuk tuk ride from the training centre. There is a free pickup service from the airport/bus station/train station but an 80 Baht charge to take you back there.
A superior room in the Tower Wing in the low season is 750 Baht rising to 850 Baht in the high season. A room in the Garden resort is 850 Baht all year round. Prices include all taxes and breakfast.
School Details - Chiang Mai Siam Square
The school belongs to the largest private language school in Thailand, which has other branches all over Thailand.
Students range in age from young children to retirement age adult learners, and in ability from absolute beginners to advanced. The school is firmly committed to providing professional, affordable tuition to their students, and are proud of the fact that almost all urban Thais with a regular job can afford to take our courses. They also offer regular scholarships.
The schools are open every day of the week - you do not have to work every day of course - from about 8.30 in the morning until 9 in the evening, although we close earlier at weekends. All schools are air-conditioned, and the classrooms are clean, bright and well ventilated. Each room has a whiteboard, desks and chairs, a cassette recorder, and VCRs and OHPs are also available.
The average class size is ten to twelve students, with a maximum of sixteen. The teachers' room contains a full range of textbooks including accompanying teachers' books, reference books, cassettes, supplementary teaching activities and games. There is also access to photocopiers. The school has a no smoking policy, which includes the teachers' room and coffee bars.

Job prospects
There is a considerable demand for English teachers within Thailand but the money varies greatly geographically and within language schools.The school has 50 schools around the country and usually has approx. 10 vacancies every month.
