Customer Feedback

The school and the quality of trainers were excellent, on all counts. The course was fantastic, great structure - as I'd expect from Cambridge. The destination was ideal, that's why I wanted to take the course abroad. What I enjoyed most about my course was observing other teachers and tutors in the classroom. Extremely helpful to a trainee's development.

What I enjoyed most in my was probably TP - Teaching Practice. Standing in front of a class for the first time can be quite intimidating but I sincerely enjoyed it from day one and in the end it's probably the best way to learn how to make it better next time or in the future.
-Susanne Degenkolb-

The School was great, the staff and admin were very helpful and the trainers were inspiring and very very very friendly and resourceful. The course was intense, but definitely provided enough practice and theory. Highly recommended!
-Joanna Kallis-

Barcelona is a great city to do the course in. The trainers were excellent. They were very helpful and provided us with a lot of information. What I liked most was the teaching practice. It was great to work with real students.

Course Description

The Cambridge DELTA Course
The Cambridge Diploma (DELTA) is the most prestigious and widely recognised British qualification in English Language Teaching. It is intended for candidates who have substantial experience of teaching English either in the UK or abroad.

A number of UK universities are now offering credits and/or exemptions on their MA and other courses for those who have obtained their DELTA.

Entry Candidates are expected to be graduates or to have qualified teacher status. Some basic ELT training, for example the CELTA or its equivalent, is considered essential.

As a rough guide, two years' broad and full-time experience of teaching adult classes is the minimum prerequisite in terms of teaching experience.

Syllabus The DELTA course aims to ensure a balance between the demands of practical application and understanding of the theoretical background. As well as a detailed consideration of key theoretical issues, it includes classroom observation and supervised, evaluated teaching practice.

The new Cambridge DELTA in Barcelona As of September 2008 the DELTA will be assessed slightly differently than before and there will be some small syllabus changes in the assessed components. Candidates may take one, two or all three of the assessed components: separate certification will be awarded for each. Candidates will no longer be required to enter for all three assessed components.

The components are as follows:

Module One Understanding language, methodology and resources for teaching
This module is assessed by a written examination comprising two papers each of 1 hour 30 minutes in length.

Module Two Developing professional practice
This module is assessed through a portfolio of course-based practical teaching and written assignments including one lesson and assignment which is externally assessed.

Module Three Extending practice and ELT specialization
This module is assessed through an extended written research project. It is externally assessed.

Courses at this centre integrate Modules One and Two and prepare candidates for Module Three. Course participants are free to enter for assessment of whichever of the three components they choose whether this be all three or just one or two.

It is our view that professional practice is primarily developed (Module Two) through a growing understanding of language, methodology and resources (Module One). For this reason, Modules One and Two are integrated.

The syllabus for Module Three consists of areas which are essential to teaching in general and are therefore included throughout the course syllabus. However, specific guidance is given on the preparation of the Module Three extended assignment. Guidance and practice is also given in preparation for the written examination.

Course Design The full-time course lasts eight weeks with a daily schedule of three hours' input and two hours' teaching practice.

The work load is heavy and candidates are advised not to take on commitments that might prejudice their chances of participating fully in the course.

Course tutors The tutors at this centre are fully qualified and have years of experience.

Enrolment Candidates should complete and return an application form, preferably by 30 April, though later applications will be accepted provided there are places remaining on the course.

They will then be asked to attend an interview; in the case of long-distance candidates, the interview is by telephone.

Accepted candidates must then pay a non-refundable deposit to secure their place.

School Details - Barcelona Plaza Catalunya

The school is a five-minute walk from La Rambla, easily accessible by metro, and has good shopping and restaurants, bars and cafes nearby. The courses are held in beautiful old buildings where the atmosphere is extremely friendly.

Barcelona

Barcelona will go down in history as an essential all-time experience. Different people will be seduced by different things, so take your picks will it be the almost arrogant individuality of a city with its own language and history, the effortless juxtaposition of Gothic and Renaissance, Byzantine and Romanesque, the dangerously inviting boutiques, or quite simply that old Spanish knack of bringing out lazy, sangria-filled lunches under a hot Mediterranean sun? Quintessentially Spanish yet unique in so many ways, make of Barcelona what you will. But whatever your vice, don't fight it - because you can be sure nobody else is.
