Customer Feedback
Seville is fantastic and I think everyone in the world should go. The school is very well equipped and situated very conveniently in the city centre. The trainers were extremely good, very supportive and also provided prompt, honest and inciteful advice. Everyone I saw teach on the course improved significantly.
Michael Bates
I learned so much and met an amazing group of people throughout my time there. It was hard at times, but you had to remember that everyone was in the same boat... And this gets you through it. At the end i felt an amazing sense of achievement.
Ingrid Mitchell
The teaching was very thorough and classes clear and well planned. Was warned before arriving that work would be intense which it was but i was prepared for it.
Trainers were very good!

Course Description
As Spain has become more popular as a teaching destination, so the need for not only the basic qualification, but also further qualifications or some teaching experience has emerged. In the case of Spain the market for teaching English is expanding largely due to an increase in the numbers of younger learners, meaning that those with an appropriate qualification or experience in this area are better positioned to find work.
In Seville, the school has developed this 8-week Combination Package which, over a 10 week period, will provide future teachers with all the skills needed for the competitive Spanish job market.
You'll start this programme with the 4-week Cambridge CELTA course followed by a 2 week Spanish course. After this you'll have 2 weeks to relax and enjoy Seville. You'll end the programme with your Younger Learner extension course. Further course details can be found below.
THE CAMBRIDGE CELTA COURSE
The CELTA - Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults course (previously known as the CTEFLA) provides initial training leading to a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. It is intended for those without previous experience who wish to enter the profession and for teachers with no previous training in this field. Success in the Certificate has enabled many candidates to obtain their first teaching position: the course is highly regarded by employers as providing sound initial training and a strong basis from which to develop as a teacher of English.

- Teaching Practice
Teaching Practice
Teaching practice is an integral part of the course. This is organised in small groups of 5-6 trainees with volunteer students at two or three different levels. After each teaching practice session an evaluation of the session is led by a course tutor. Trainees are expected to liaise within their groups outside course hours in order to plan teaching practice classes, according to guidelines provided by course tutors.
Assessment and Certificates
Trainees are continuously assessed in all the syllabus areas, including written assignment, and with particular emphasis on their teaching ability and potential. At the end of the course successful candidates receive the Cambridge Certificate and a Progress Report.
Entry Requirements
Candidates must be at least 20 years old at the start of the course. They must have a standard of education which would allow entrance to higher education in their country. They must have an awareness of language, and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables them to follow the course.
Course Design
This course is full-time and four weeks' long. This is a very intensive and requires full-time commitment. Full attendance is very important. It is not possible or advisable to hold even a part-time job while on the course.
Enrolment Procedure
Applicants for the course must complete an application form and send it to us at Cactus. You will then normally be called for an interview, although if you are a long distance from Seville you may be interviewed by telephone. To secure a place once you have been accepted you should ensure that the full fee is paid at least six weeks before the course begins. Applicants applying less than six weeks before the course are required to pay the fees on acceptance.
Class Times
Sessions are held between 9.00am and 5.00pm including teaching practice. Note that the course is full-time: it is not possible to combine the course with regular teaching. Observation of experienced teachers (8 hours in total) takes place after course hours, as does individual lesson preparation.
Books
Recommended reading for the course includes:
GRAMMAR:
'Practical English Usage' by Michael Swan (OUP) or 'Longman English Grammar' by Louis Alexander (Longman)
METHODOLOGY:
You are also advised to have access to a methodology book; either 'The Practice of English Language Teaching' by Jeremy Harmer (Longman) or 'Learning Teaching' by Jim Scrivener (Heinemann).
TEACHING ENGLISH IN SPAIN: If you are considering staying in Spain to teach English, 'Teaching English in Spain' by the Head of Cactus TEFL Jenny Johnson (In Print Publishing) gives you thorough background information on this aspect.
SPANISH INTENSIVE COURSE
The Spanish course can be taken at any level, in international groups with other language learners. It is also interesting to observe your teachers in action whilst you are improving your own Spanish language skills.
Trainees can choose between a 2 week intensive Spanish course or a 4 week general Spanish course. (Please see the course dates in the 'Important Information' at the top of the page)
This course is recommended for those students who wish to combine Spanish language learning with a study of the culture in a real life situation at a steady pace and has been designed for students from varied backgrounds and a range of ages.
The teaching methodology at this centre has been continually updated over the last 20 years to incorporate the latest techniques to ensure that students enjoy a range of methods that are adapted to their needs. All Spanish teachers hold university degrees as well as completing the "Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Languae" training course.
The course aims are:
- Classes entirely in Spanish orientated towards the communicative development of our students.
- Skills integration with special emphasis on listening comprehension and oral expression as well as learning and communication methods.
- Lesson planning based on the students' needs and their diverse learning styles.
- A varied programme which makes the most of the school's resources, as well as help for those students who are studying Spanish for specific purposes.
CHILL OUT
By the time the previous six weeks are over you'll be in need for some chill out time. During this time you will be able to explore Seville as you please and recharge your batteries for the final part of your programme.
CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING YOUNGER LEARNERS
Finally, you take the all-important 2-week International House Certificate Course in Teaching Younger Learners. This will cover all aspects of what it is to teach under 16s. This is largely a course to help you adapt from the teaching of the CELTA which firmly concentrates on older age groups. You will end the course with the confidence to walk into Younger Learner groups and teach with appropriate, stimulating and successful materials and approaches.
Why do this programme?
The added advantage of this packaged course is that, during the chillout component of this course, you will have a two-week period in which to approach English schools in Seville looking for work. At that point, you will have completed the CELTA course, and will be able to report that you are about to undertake the Younger Learners course shortly. August/September is also by far the best time to start looking for work in Spain.

School Details - Seville
This school, part of the International House network of schools, is located in the heart of town just 10 minutes walking distance to the cathedral and 2 minutes to Plaza Nueva. The building is a typical Andalucian house with a reception desk on the ground floor, training director's office, teachers' room, classrooms, internet access, kitchen, vending machines and common room on the second and third floors and a large roof terrace. The classrooms are large and bright and they are equipped with a range of materials; there are also TVs and videos as teaching aids. The school advertises locally for Spanish students that would like to take English lessons. The foreign language school that we work with, located 1 minute from this centre, can often provide volunteer students and further support for trainee teachers. The school also owns its own cafe/bar (serving drinks and tapas) that is on the same street. This provides an excellent meeting place for both teachers and students from all over the world.
Seville
You can t quite put your finger on it at first. But as you move between plazas and make your way through the maze of narrow winding streets, you notice the fruit - as much on the ground as in the trees - and eventually recognise the sweet seductive smell as that of orange blossom. Set in the heart of Spain s southernmost province, Andalucia, Seville is warm in climate, character and people. Just like the Muslims some 1500 years ago, you can t help but fall under the spell of this magical city where the rhythmic tapping of flamenco heels and late afternoon cries from the plaza de toros are familiar, and enticing, sounds.

Help for Jobs
The school provides a job information service about local, national and international posts, and as a member of the International House World Organisation, act as a network interview center for posts being advertised throughout the world.
