Course Description
Gain the expertise to teach both general and business English with confidence & enjoy better teaching prospects. Teaching business English is a growing and generally more lucrative area of TEFL and our students tell us this course is broadening their appeal to employers. This course is ideal if you are starting out in teaching but would like at least some of your teaching to be to adults or 1-1. A unique option for today’s TEFL market. In addition to your teaching business English certificate, you will be awarded a level 2 Certificate of Educational studies in TESOL by the international TESOL accrediting body, ACTDEC.
About the course
This 4 module course is approximately 175 study hours and typically take between 2-5 months to complete. However, many of our students are balancing work/life commitments, so we allow up to 18 months for course completion. The course is graded by continuous assessment. There are short tasks and in-depth activities throughout the course with exam questions at the end of each module. A qualified EFL tutor will mark your answers and is available if you require any further help. Your final award is graded on the following scale: A, B or Pass and this is shown on your Global English Certificate and your written assessment which acts as a reference. Your Global English Certificate of Educational studies in TESOL with business will state your grade (A, B or pass) along with your written assessment, which acts as a reference. You will also be awarded an ACTDEC level 2 Certificate of Educational studies in TESOL. A free ‘train to teach’ CD-ROM and study pack accompanies the course. You can view and assess real teaching segments, assisted by guided commentary and study notes. This course also comes with a free ‘Business Focus pre-intermediate’
book, one of the latest titles for foreign business learners from Oxford University Press.
English is the language needed to do business – to participate in meetings, negotiate and write emails, for example. You will gain the methodology to create bespoke tailor-made lessons which will help you succeed in this growing and more lucrative area of TESOL. Since most business people learn in a 1-1/small group environment, this form of teaching is an attractive alternative to large classes of children or teenagers. The good news with this course is that you gain expertise in both areas and wider appeal to employers. A unique option for today’s TESOL market. The course provides a solid foundation in the introduction of teaching business English with a very hands on approach. It not only covers using the basic skills for Business English and Functional Business English, but also gives the student an insight into types of business courses (especially one-to-one lessons) and course design. There is also a very informative module on information technology and using the internet as a business teacher. There is a wealth of photocopiable material and lesson plans to help the new business teacher plus numerous useful tips on where to resource teaching plans and material from the internet. Each module is accompanied with a task ranging from planning an individual lesson, planning a range of lessons for a set student, to writing a critique on an existing plan.
