Customer Feedback
The school and the quality of trainers were both excellent. The course was a great investment and was well planned and well paced.
Kathleen Parker, 2006
Course Description
The course lasts for four 5 day weeks, and one home study week.
The first 30 hours or so of the course are mainly taken up with basic notions concerned with teaching and learning, 1st and 2nd language acquisition, brain function in learning as well as models of language presentation and practice.
Teaching practice begins at the end of the first phase and means that you teach real learners, real language.
Each trainee teaches a minimum of six hours observed by a Teaching Practice Tutor. The lessons are divided into four, half hour lessons and four, full hour lessons. This is the chance to put into practice the ideas which you have been forming during phase one.
Meanwhile, input sessions continue. Sessions on many aspects of ELT methodology, technique, approach and practice will help to ensure that you develop considered and rounded opinions on your new profession as well as a reflective attitude to your teaching.
All taught components of the course are delivered during the first four weeks. The fifth week is used solely for completing written work.
Written Assignments
Trinity College London stipulates that a number of written assignments are completed during the course. All together the written papers are weighted at 45% of the total marks. 50% is provided by teaching practice though the latter ultimately counts for more since your overall mark at the end of the course cannot exceed your teaching practice mark. The remaining 5% is covered by Professional Development which includes such areas as punctuality. All the grading criteria are made available at the start of the course.
There are four written assignments and each of them is described fully and clearly in the Course Handbook, which you will be given at the start of the course.
The course round-up begins at 1pm on Friday of week five, so candidates will need to keep this afternoon free, as well as Saturday. The course round-up usually ends at around 3pm on Saturday.
