Customer Feedback

The trainers had a positive attitude and were very encouraging in spite of the heat that week-end! They really kept us going through the day.

The course was excellent with regard to content and insight as to what would be expected of us as teachers. It was also good on teaching techniques and sources of material for teaching.

Jan Andrews, 2006

Course Description

This course is designed for those who want to learn the basic skills and techniques needed to teach English as a Foreign Language. It is also suitable for people wanting a refresher course.

You will be shown how to present and give students practice in grammar and vocabulary; how to manage a class; how to correct students’ errors; how to evaluate coursebooks and plan lessons and how to help your students be more proficient at understanding and communicating in English. Unlike most other course providers, the school includes a session on teaching Young Learners; in Asia, in particular, as much as 80% of teaching can be to this age group. We also include a session on teaching one-to-one classes.

The teaching on the course involves input sessions from a tutor but the emphasis is on active participation from trainees through working in pairs or small groups. The aim here is to replicate the techniques used in an ELT classroom. There will also be opportunities to try out the techniques you have learned on your peers as well as to watch video footage of experienced teachers working with real students. The course is intensive (20 contact hours) but the aim is to make the sessions interesting and useful, with a clear emphasis on the practical not the theoretical.
All participants receive a TEFL certificate detailing the modules covered upon completion of the course.
