Course Description

The course includes aspects such as: development of language skills, presentation of new language items, teaching pronunciation, correction techniques, time-tabling, integration of textbooks in courses, techniques of practice, use of visual aids and drama, role of video and taped materials, syllabus design, professional development, analysis of English. Input sessions are followed by daily teaching practice, during which groups of trainees work with multinational classes of real language learners and gain experience at teaching two different levels. The observation of practicing teachers is an intrinsic part of the course and is integrated into the timetable. The course will comprise a minimum of 120 hours.

All tutors are experienced professionals, typically with extensive teaching and training experience in the US and abroad. The school embraces a range of training methods and approaches. Your tutors will present you with a coherent set of practical approaches and encourage you to keep an open mind while incorporating your own experience and knowledge.

Accommodation Options

Student accommodation is located within easy reach. The travel time to and from school varies between twenty and fifty minutes.

IH San Diego works closely with Foreign Student Homestay, an excellent private agency which places its students with American families. The families are carefully chosen for their friendliness and hospitality and regularly inspected. Different homestay options are available - a single room on a half-board basis costs $204 per week. The price of a single room with breakfast is $174, and a single room with the use of kitchen facilities costs $156 per week.

For those students who prefer more independence, several other accommodation options are available.

The price of room in an apartment varies from between around $680 and $1,300 a month.

A room in a hotel is available for between around $55 and $225 per night.

A room in a hostel costs in the region of $19 and $45 per night.

The school is located in the historic Old Town district of the city, a safe and friendly area, filled with a colorful array of shops, restaurants, gardens and picnic areas. Old Town Transit Center, just fifty meters from the school, is served by buses, trains and the overland metro (trolley) that take you to downtown in five minutes or to fashionable La Jolla in thirty minutes. The main beaches of San Diego are all easily accessible by public transport from the school. The school offers free parking for those students who rent or buy a car. The school is housed in comfortable, air-conditioned premises fully equipped with multimedia center, library and student common room. Computer access is provided for free. We also offer wireless (WI-FI) internet connection.
