This qualification is from Trinity College London, the world's oldest external examinations board. TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and is designed for candidates with little or no experience in teaching English. The course is the first step towards acquiring the knowledge and basic skills needed to take up a post as an English teacher equipped with a foundation for self-evaluation.

The course focuses on several key components: varieties of English, language awareness, phonology, evaluation of books and teaching materials, classroom management and methodology, lesson planning and needs analysis. In addition, candidates are taught how to effectively use teaching aids such as OHPs, videos and songs in actual teaching sessions, feel how it is to be a learner of another language by being taught an 'unknown' language, receive no less than six hours of guided observation of lessons taught by experienced tutors, create a learner profile which includes biographical description of the learner, evaluation of his current proficiency, a needs analysis and recommendations for error correction. Lastly, a Cert TESOL candidate is observed for a minimum of six hours of teaching practice with feedback from the tutors.

There is continuous assessment of coursework. There are at least eight assignments that each candidate must pass satisfactorily and teaching practice sessions are assessed accordingly.

A moderator from Trinity College London interviews the trainees at the end of the course, looks at their work and at our assessment. It is the moderator who decides on the final award of the certificate. During moderation, the school is also assessed on to ensure it meets the standards Trinity has laid down.

This course runs extensively twice a year, from February to June and October to April. Intensive courses, which last for five weeks are also held.

This is the only provider of the Trinity CertTESOL course in United Arab Emirates. The school has a number of functions locally, as well as operating this teacher training programme. It is also an examination centre for London Chamber of Commerce and Industry awards and runs courses in areas such as drama and speech and effective business communication.

As befits a course in Dubai, parts of the course are taught in quality hotels near to the school.
