Course Description

The Course details
The Trinity College London CertTESOL is a qualification recognised worldwide. It provides many thousands of people with a career that combines academic study, teaching and teacher management, and continuous association with other cultures in the UK and around the world.

This is a four-week intensive course. The commitment needed on the part of the trainees helps develop a strong team feeling among the trainees and between trainees and trainers. Our trainers are experienced in bringing out the best in trainees during the course which leads to a hardworking yet enjoyable atmosphere.

Without ignoring theoretical aspects, the course will be as practical as possible. We strongly believe in a participative approach and to that end trainees will take part in the sessions through pairwork and groupwork. This will be especially evident in the workshops given throughout the course.

There are a maximum of ten trainees, which allows for an excellent tutor-trainee ratio as we have five trainers involved in the course.

Course content

The following are some of the main elements of the Trinity College London CertTESOL course:

Language awareness

This includes grammar, lexis and phonology.

Teaching practice

This includes methodology, lesson planning, classroom management and teaching techniques. The teaching practice will include teaching real language students.

Guided observation of experienced teachers.

Foreign language classes in a language which is unknown to the trainees.
This will give trainees experience of some of the difficulties which language learners meet and also allow them to see at first hand a range of language teaching procedures.

Input sessions

The input sessions will be given in the form of seminars or workshops. Seminars will deal more with the theoretical nature of a subject, while workshops will involve practical ideas which will be demonstrated and wherever possible performed by the trainees.

Entry Requirements
- Trainees must be at least 18 years of age at the start of the course.
- Trainees must have a standard of written and spoken English which will allow them to successfully follow the course.

Career Services
The school sees helping trainees find suitable employment and guiding them in their future careers as a vital part of the course. To this end we work with agents who help our trainees find teaching positions in Madrid and in Spain. We also have direct contact with language schools and academies in Madrid and throughout Spain who frequently consult us when looking for teachers. Trainees have access to job fairs here in Madrid, where potential employers from various schools interview candidates. We also work with a number of schools in the UK to place our trainees in suitable posts. Occasionally trainees are offered positions in the school on completion of the course.

Careers advice is given in areas such as:

- producing a CV
- interview preparation
- demonstration classes
- guidelines for choosing a school
- conditions
- professional development

We will also provide detailed references on the completion of the course. The careers services are available at any time after completing a Trinity CertTESOL course.

School Details - Madrid - Felipe II

The school opened in 1986 in the Barrio de Salamanca, the most select residential and commercial area in Madrid. The school has three centres, all within a ten-minute walk. The school offers a wide range of classes to children and adults. Apart from the courses organised here in Madrid, the school offers courses to its students in the UK, Ireland, the US and Canada. At any one time in the school there are approximately one thousand students attending courses.

This does not mean that it is a large or impersonal organisation. The school prides itself on our close contact with trainees on the Trinity CertTESOL certificate courses and the warm, friendly atmosphere during the courses. The training team has wide teacher training experience, and offers constant advice and support throughout what is a demanding certificate course. This coupled with very good facilities and resources combine to offer trainees an excellent grounding in teaching.
