Customer Feedback
The school is the most wonderful place - a truly beautiful building with a constant buzz about it. It really made it a pleasure to turn up there every day. The trainers were consistently professional, supportive, encouraging and approachable as people, as were the majority of other teaching staff at the school, who were usually more than willing to help out the lost CELTA!
The course has been invaluable as a "rough guide to teaching". The vast majority of input sessions were useful in a practical sense, while being enjoyable at the same time. I feel all aspects of teaching have been touched upon, and it really seems that the more you put in to the course, the more you can get out of it. Furthermore, the course encourages you to go on and start teaching "in the real world"... making you proud of what you've achieved in the four weeks.

The exact start and finish dates for the course are as follows
11 February - 25 May 2006 (course finishes on a Thursday. There is a one week break from 17 - 21 April)
09 September - 14 December 2006
The Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is recognised by the British Council as an initial qualification in English Language Training. The school is a recognised centre to prepare trainees for this qualification.
The CELTA is an introductory course for candidates with little or no experience of English Language Teaching. The part-time course provides initial teacher training in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) over a period of just over 14 weeks.
The course covers the basic principles of teaching and learning a foreign language including: classroom management, language analysis, adapting materials, teaching techniques, presenting new language, lesson planning.
You have teaching practice sessions with classes of volunteer students at a minimum of two levels. Initially, these lessons are quite short and you receive considerable guidance from your tutors. As the course progresses these lessons become longer and you are expected to make more decisions about what and how to teach. By the end of the course, although you will still require some support, you will be ready to teach in most English Language Teaching situations throughout the world.
Assessment is continuous and all aspects of your coursework are taken into consideration: attendance, assignments, teaching, participation, attitude and potential as a teacher. You are clearly informed of your progress in tutorials and receive written feedback on your lessons and coursework. Grades and certificates are awarded to successful candidates by UCLES, the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate.
Note: Applicants aged 18/19 may be considered by special arrangements.
