I was a middle/ high school teacher in the USA, and I was getting bored with the same type of person and in the same classroom day in and day out, so I decided it was time to give my career a change while still doing what I loved (teaching) and opted to travel and teach. more...

I have nothing but praise for the course I attended at Barcelona House. It was very well organised, right from the outset. The course was condensed and the pace constant but all teachers worked alongside students to enable the best outcomes. The course content and delivery was of a high standard and most relevant, as teaching post-course has proved. more...

Enjoying the course so far, it's only the second day but it's a great challenge.
Everyone is very nice and lots of fun.

I finished university last year and was desperate to work abroad. I thought teaching would be the ideal way to experience other cultures firsthand. I was also keen for a new challenge and TEFL certainly gave me that. more...

Even before I took the CELTA course, I was teaching ESL (in the U.S.) and EFL (in Korea) for about three years. Not long after I started teaching ESL & EFL, I knew that it was likely to be my career because I found it so interesting and rewarding. more...

I really liked my course and IH Barcelona and the teachers there, it was hard work, a very demanding month but I tried my best and I'm delighted I did it. Celta thoroughly prepared me for being an English teacher, and the qualification gave me confidence to apply for well paid jobs. I got one. more...

Firstly I would highly recommend using Cactus to organise your courses abroad, extremely helpful, looked after details so I could concentrate on the interview and application process. I had already got one of my friends doing a CELTA in London and she's gone through Cactus and had been pleased with the service. more...

Up until April 2004 I had worked in an office environment, which was rewarding in some ways, but I finally reached a point where I wanted to try something different, learn new skills and travel more widely. After much soul searching, TEFL seemed to be the way forward. Doing the course in Sydney was ideal - I have a friend based in Bondi who I wanted to visit and I also wanted to see some more of Australia. I was therefore able to combine getting qualified with a bit of an adventure to set the tone for my new life!! I rented out my flat, sold my car and took off on 11 April. I haven't looked back since! more...

The service I received from Cactus was very good - I was in Italy and it was a real help. I'd definitely recommend Cactus to others. I liked the people, peers and teachers on the course, and the seafront location. Don't buy P. Lindsay's book though.

I am in Hungary teaching English. I finished the CELTA course in August here in Budapest at International House and by the second half of September I started work. I cannot take on any more students I am fully booked! I have various classes to give the range is from a 6 year old boy to a group of bankers who need business English.

It is still rather scary but I am getting the much needed teaching experience.

I had actually been teaching EFL in Brazil for 3 years when I decided I should pursue an internationally recognised qualification (CELTA).

My CELTA course was, without a doubt, a very good experience. I had the support of highly qualified tutors who helped me all the way through the course as well as my colleagues.

I am currently teaching ESOL in Shijiazhuang, China. The EF school here is great and I found it very easy to find the job. After having my interview in Brighton, I had my CV forwarded to EF Shanghai. About a week later I had a telephone interview and was offered the job. It all happened so quickly I couldn't believe it - I am now in China! more...

I took my course at Inlingua Cheltenham July 2004 because it was local (ish) to where I live.
It was a very good course: I was warned that it would be HARD WORK, and it was, but no pain, no gain.
I took the course 1) to enable me to supplement part-time FE teachers' earnings (although now, miraculaously, I am full-time) 2) to supplement pension when I move to soemwhere HOT on retirement (8 or so years away). more...

By the last day of the course I was used to the routine of four and a half hours sleep, the empty train carriage between Ashford and Hastings leaving at 6.45 in the morning, the sharp gradient down to the sea-front, stretching my eyes on the waves, purchasing a can of Diet Coke (essential for the caffeine) from the newsagent next to the college at Sam and making my way by stair up to the third floor. Rumours about relocating from the Hastings seafront were circulating but without that vista to look upon and unwind my mind I don't know if I would have made it. ... more

I would like to thank you again for all your help in being the liaison between me and International House London. I had no idea the school was so well established nor that the teachers were so experienced, professional, warm, caring, and supportive. more...

The administrative support provided by Cactus was very good with constant and personal communications.
The help and support offered by the school was very encouraging when the going was tough.

I love teaching and travelling, it makes me happy! Even though teaching is not my field, I found myself moving towards teaching. I was told that the CELTA is the most recognised TEFL qualifiction in the world, so I thought what have II got to lose? I have no regrets, and it has changed my life. :) more...

There was a lot of help and support from the
trainers. We had an hour every morning to ask last minute questions before teaching and time after school if we needed to ask further questions. We also had a session every week with our tutor in which we could ask about our lesson or anything more general.

Read more about Fionas adventures here or read what she says in this Everything Spain Magazine article...

About the course: do it somewhere where there are no distractions. It's hectic enough as it is, you don't want a gloomy day and a friend at a loose end disturbing you, there was plenty of time for that after the course. Do it abroad.

Cactus Teachers Team

'I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your time and opinion this morning. As is likely true for many of us exploring the possibility of ELT as a profession, gap or otherwise, finding folks who have expertise and ideas about how to accomplish that goal is of golden importance. Being nearly 40, (39 to be precise) I haven’t much lifetime left to make strategic career mistakes so your help is truly appreciated.'

If you would like to request information, make a comment or give us your feedback, please send an email to Cactus Teachers. Thank you
