TEFL Course in Spain

Cactus spoke to Fiona Thwaites who took the course there last year. Through her hard work she was also offered a job on completion of the course.

Cactus How was the quality of the advice you were given before the course

Fiona Thwaites We were given adequate advice before the course.
We were given a pre-course task to complete which was an effective way of preparing ourselves. I didn't need accomodation from the school so cannot comment on this but if we had any problems James, the director, was easily accessible by email.

Cactus Can you comment on the help and support offered by the school, and the quality of the CELTA course and your trainers?

Fiona Thwaites There was a lot of help and support from the
trainers. We had an hour every morning to ask last minute questions before teaching and time after school if we needed to ask further questions. We also had a session every week with our tutor in which we could ask about our lesson or anything more general.

Cactus What did you like most about the CELTA course?

Fiona Thwaites I enjoyed meeting new people from all walks of
life. I liked the way everyone bonded very well for those intense 4 weeks and helped each other immensely. The course was fascinating and rewarding.

Cactus What do you think about the location of the school?

Fiona Thwaites Palma is a beautiful city and lots of lovely things to see. The course was quite exhausting so there was nothing better than spending a day at the weekend relaxing on the beach! The school itself is very central and everyone was living very close so
this meant meeting up was easy. There are lots of bars nearby to relax after a hard weeks work. It is also wonderful to be able to learn about a new language and culture.

Cactus What did you most dislike about the CELTA course?

Fiona Thwaites I was a little shocked to be teaching on the second day but later realised that this was the best method. The school is quite small so there aren't lots of computers to work on but there are plenty of internet cafes nearby and not everything has be word
processed which is good. I would have liked more time but the sense of achievement at the end is great and you realise that it is best to do four intense weeks and then have more time for yourself to find a job.

Cactus Having completed the course, is there anything you would have found useful to know beforehand?

Fiona Thwaites I don't think I needed to know anything else as we
could always email James [Centre Manager] and ask him anything we weren't sure about.

Cactus Would you recommend the school to your friends?

Fiona Thwaites I would definitely recommend the course here to
anyone as it is challenging but very rewarding. The people are very friendly and Palma is an ideal place to be learning something new.
