Still not a qualification. This is more UK-based, frequently teaching individuals who are integrating into a community in which English is spoken.

This is the one of the two major qualifications for those wishing to start a career in ELT and the minimum requirement of most serious language schools. CELTA is designed for native English speakers, or non-native of near-native proficiency. Successful CELTA candidates will have a thorough basic grounding in all areas of modern EFL teaching. The Cambridge CELTA course is validated by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicates (UCLES).

Widely regarded as an equivalent qualification to the Cambridge CELTA. Cert TESOL courses now have similar content to the CELTA and some interesting additions and options. Some centres offer the course over 5 weeks instead of the usual 4 weeks, and others offer a pre-course distance learning module. The course contains as much teaching practice as the CELTA and is moderated by Trinity College, London

The diploma is intended for teachers with the CELTA/TESOL qualification and 2 - 3 years' experience in ELT.
