School Details - Cape Town South Central
Cape Town is a truly beautiful city where oceans, mountains and cultures meet with spectacular results. It is not difficult to see why so many people fall in love with the place.
South Africa's popularity is growing as a TEFL destination. The school is one of the biggest private language schools in South Africa and has two locations in the city of Cape Town. The school has been running it's CELTA programme since 2003 and as a CELTA trainee you can expect the highest standards of tuition and support. Due to it's growing international appeal you can expect to teach students from Europe, South America, Africa and Asia who come to learn English in this beautiful African setting. The school is located in the Rondebosch area which is near the university and the cricket and rubgy stadiums. It's a 15 minute train ride to the centre of Cape Town. On-site facilities include a garden and a swimming pool.
The school is one of the founding members of the English Language Travel Association of South Africa, which is an association of quality language schools started in 2003. EduSA is committed to developing and guiding the growth of the English language travel industry in South Africa and ensuring that its members meet or exceed guaranteed minimum standards of professionalism and quality.
The Cambridge CELTA course in one of the leading industry-standard and internationally-recognised TEFL qualifications. The course is accredited by the Cambridge University Examining Board who will also issue your certificate. The CELTA qualification is also recognised by the British Council and is classified as a level 4 qualification (a degree level qualification) by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in the UK.
The course consists of four main elements - input, teaching practice, observation and written assignments.
These will usually take place in the afternoons where you will learn the methodologies and skills involved in TEFL teaching.
TP sessions will take place in the mornings and you will complete at least 6 hours of assessed teaching practice during the 4 weeks. When you are not teaching you will observe your fellow trainees in action. The teaching practice sessions will either consist of a skills-based or a language-focused lesson. You will have to demonstrate sufficient competence in both in order to pass the course. At the end of each session there will be a reflective feedback session on the day's teaching.
This is an essential part of the course. Not only will you observe your peers teaching, you will also observe and analyse the teaching of professional teachers. This is an invaluable way to learn new techniques and ideas which you can then apply to your own teaching.
You will have to complete four written tasks over the 4 weeks. The tasks will focus on adult learning, the English language system, language skills and classroom teaching.
