My CV details some of my accomplishments and credentials. My record is one of increased responsibility, variety in job assignments and solid accomplishments. My expertise covers the areas of teaching (English Language and Literature), research, translating, interpreting and volunteer work, thereby providing me with a multiplicity of insights and transferable skills. All these responsibilities imply outstanding communication, analytical, organisational, management and problem-solving strengths. A flexible and motivated thinker, I have a results-oriented background and a great understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity. I adapt to new situations easily, and my ability to relate to students and colleagues fosters a feeling of trust, which in its turn, establishes a creative and stimulating working environment. Almost three years of EFL university teaching consolidated my communication as well as leadership skills (8 groups, 18-23 years of age, and >40). As Tutor and Examiner, I designed and delivered my own teaching sessions and chose the appropriate assessment strategies and techniques to support student learning and to record achievement. The syllabus was more holistic than traditional, and therefore my approach to language teaching was communicative and student-centred. I taught practical English and prepared advanced students for the English language certificates. Frequently used methods were: pair work, circle games, group brainstorm, role-play, quizzes, activities, drilling, Tutor presentation, debates and projects. The main resources I used were the briefing/handout, video/audio tapes, flip-charts, etc. I gave constructive and fair feedback and kept accurate records; I encouraged and motivated my students. My secondary school teaching experience concentrated on grammar and literature (4 groups, 11-14 years of age), using British Council and Oxford University Press texts/activity books, tapes and other didactic materials. I inspired my students to think creatively and to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. I always looked at ways of assisting student understanding and conceptual change, improving learning skills and outcomes. My collaboration with Global Education will commence in April 2005 and I will be teaching English in East Sussex secondary schools. I hold a BA in foreign languages and a formal teaching qualification (QTS) - analysed by UK NARIC, national agency under contract to the UK Government Department for Education and Skills. Further teaching training I undertook at Sussex University: the Postgraduate Tutors Teaching and Learning Programme (Jan 2003 - Mar 2003) organised by the Staff and Educational Development Association. The programme sought to develop expertise, confidence and enjoyment in the teaching role, and its main sections investigated planning teaching, student learning, assessment, group dynamics, student support, professional practice and development. I stand out in managing projects, planning trips and conferences. My event management experience developed during the four-year volunteering work for Fondacio (Aug 1999 - Aug 2002) when I honed my organisational and decision-making skills, and enhanced my logistics experience. To successfully organise a 100-student international summer camp and all related social events and seminars, we worked as a team, and formulated and implemented our business plan. We booked the venue, arranged accommodation and transportation, managed the budget, invited key speakers, liased with media and sponsors, brought the equipment for the afternoon workshops, adapted to a diversity of lifestyles and last-minute changes. We consistently reviewed, evaluated and discussed alternative strategies for the following year. As Communications Officer I marketed the event, prepared presentations and documentation, set up and led the communication groups. At Sussex University I assisted with the organization of the Open Days (Feb-May 2003), Study Abroad Fair (Dec 2002) and International Students’ Welcome Week (Sept 2002- Sept 2004). I can advise on funding and immigration issues. As the beneficiary of prestigious grants and awards in different countries, I enhanced my cultural sensitivity and knowledge of international programmes. The experience of studying and working abroad has provided me with valuable insights into their educational/social structures and ethos. As freelance Translator and Interpreter, I have developed a critical and methodical appreciation of languages, texts and sources. I am experienced in meeting deadlines and working under pressure. I enjoy writing articles for the Students’ Newsletter (Sussex University) and for literary journals. My latest research work, Interpreting between Privacies’: Language, Subversion, and Hybridity in Brian Friel’s Postcolonial Drama (70,000 words), emphasises again my capacity to research, select and present ideas, and to assess, analyse and synthesize information. Some of my research interests (educational marketing, the improvement of teaching/learning methods, postcolonial literatures) provide me with a variety of useful analytical tools in managing problems and maximizing opportunities. I monitor and reflect on my professional practice, and constantly look for ways to become more efficient. My thorough understanding of different cultural matrixes, my public relations experience in an international multicultural context, and my well-developed teaching, research, problem-solving and organisational skills are essential assets to an educational environment. I am an assertive, hard-working, diplomatic and creative person, and I am confident that my expertise would allow me to substantially contribute to your goals. I would like to contribute to the success of the summer school and to ensure that students’ time in the wondrous, superb and enigmatic England is very rewarding.
